Competition for joining FELJEU (European festival of the Book and the Reading for young people)

TO ALL ASSOCIATED MEMBERS
The competition is particularly meant to involve the EWHUM Lyceum students as “associated members” of national networks of the Lyceum, but it is alike open to all interested European grammar school students.
HOW TO PARTICIPATE
The competition proposes to joiners to carry out:
1. The review of a book dealing with common values European citizens can identify in. The analyses of the text, the vocabulary and the style of the selected book are required (max 30 lines).
2. The dramatization of a prose work aiming at the formation of the European citizen, making an appropriate adjustment (max 5 pages).
3. Prose texts (max 120 lines), poems (max 60 lines) or musical pieces referring to values and experiences common to European citizen.
4. Models representing the interior or exterior of publishing houses, bookshops, public or private libraries, particularly expressive and representative of the European educational heritage.
5. Reconstructions of the life of the characters who marked a turning point in creating books: it is required an outline with photos, videos, handwritings to realize short films (printed or multimedia).
Participants have to use their own language and present “also” a translation in English, French.or Italian.
All works have to be sent to EWHUM coordinators.
For the final prize-giving the winners will present their works in French or English (20 – 25 lines), 5 minute illustration. Each school can participate with more scripts (max 5), and with no more than 2 papers for each typology.

Deadlines
Schools that want to participate to the competition have to send their application form by 1 March 2008 and present the scripts within and not later than March 15, 2008

EVALUATION AND PRIZES
1. The evaluation of the papers will be done by a national commission – jury composed of expert professors and teachers and EWHUM coordinators. The selection of papers to be awarded as “good practices” during the Festival will take into account:
• Coherence with the main topics of the Festival: the book as a concrete object, the role of libraries, the action of reading also with reference to the use of ICT and the identification of a European “canon” of classical books inalienable for the education of the young European.
• Originality and creativity in the panning and production of papers.
• Stylistic quality of papers
2. The best products will be awarded with the participation to the Festival of 2 students and a teacher of the same school. The number of the winners for each country will be defined in proportion to the number of participants and however for a maximum of ten schools for each country involved in the event (Italy, Romania, Czech Republic, France, Sweden, Greece, Russia, Poland, Spain, England, Germany)
3. By March 31 st the jury will evaluate the products and will define the winners who will take part in Feljeu 2.
4. The decision of the commission will be final and unquestionable.
LEGAL AND ETHICAL QUESTIONS
Ewhum Coordinators reserve the right to modify the rules and the prizes at any time publishing the information on the competition web site. It will be valid starting from the date of publication. All the participants will have to follow the European agreements as regard the copyrights. The products must not have statements, facts, information or quotation which can damage or harm people of groups of people. The papers must not contain statements, facts, information or quotation which can encourage the persecution of individuals for their race, opinions, nationalities, sex, profession or believes. They must not encourage crime or the breaking of laws as well.
The papers will not be given back. The organization reserves the faculty, even without notice, of their possible publication.
The winners will be informed by letter or e-mail in due time and they must be present at the awarding of prizes.
EXCLUSIONS
EWHUM coordinators will be able to decide to exclude a product if it is not presented by the deadline or if it breaks any rule of the “legal and ethical question” section.
REPRODUCTION RIGHTS
All the products belong to EWHUM which reserves the right to better, revise, widen, modify and reproduce the material, according to the authors, starting from the date of presentation of the papers.
